Deadwood is an unincorporated community on Route 36 in the Oregon Coastal mountain range. Named after Deadwood Creek, a tributary of the Siuslaw River, so named because of the dead timber snags left along its banks by a series of wildfires in the area. The local post office was established in 1884 but was discontinued and moved to the community of Greenleaf in 1914 but was re-established in 1950.
